Paint with scissors like Henri Matisse

Henri Matisse was a French artist. At the end of his career, he was very sick and had to stay in bed for a long time. His restricted movement made it too difficult for him to paint, he began “drawing with scissors”.

I picked 2 cutout pictures as inspiration:

”The sadness of the king”

La Tristesse du roi

“La Gerbe”

La Gerbe

Material required:

  • Colored construction paper

  • Scissor

  • A larger piece of paper

  • Glue stick

Ask your child to cut shapes from the construction paper and to glue them on the larger paper (any shapes work).

Be safe using scissors
Glue colored pieces of paper
Creativity inspired by Henri Matisse's art

This is a good book to learn more about Henri Matisse:
